Let's talk about the art of using profanity in Rap music. I believe this subject is very overrated in the media. "They" are quick to hand out awards and shit to actors and actresses who allow profanity to roll off their tongues for a movie lasting at least two hours, yet and still "they" are ready to condemn rap artist for expressing themselves with a few cuss words in a song which last no more than 4 minutes. Where is the equality here? If a rapper says fuck you and kiss my ass in a song it causes a stir and censorship is immediately put into place but if a actor says I'm gonna rip your fuckin head off you son of a bitch he gets a pat on the back and congratulated for nailing his role. My belief has always been, it is never good if a rapper cusses because he or she can't find any other words to say. If these are the only words audible through out the song then it becomes monotonous and that should be an indication to elevate and expand one's mind but if a artist uses a few choice cuss words to assist with what ever else they are saying then so be it! Dose anybody really know what it's about? It is all about being controlled. We are no better than Communist if we put limits on freedom of speech. They might as well take every Fuck, Shit, Bitch and so on, out of every movie created with profanity in the script. We might as well all walk around with a squeaky clean image. I totally agree with you Griff they scrutinize the Rap and Hip Hop community but sweep everything else under the rug. When it comes to profanity in Rap music I believe it doesn't matter what you say, what matters is what context it's used in. I have new songs that some would consider offensive. Example, these are the lyrics to one of my songs "if the economy is fucked up and it ain't coming back will white collar business men resort to selling crack" When I wrote the song and added the word fuck, that is how I was feeling at that moment. I wanted to say Fuck because I felt it gave me a little more power to get my message across. We all need to realize this is bigger than trying to limit what we say, this is a form of control over who we are and what we do. If they start with something as simple as the words we speak, next on the roster will be controlling our every move.
